The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the first phase of the vaccination campaign has been completed following the detection of polio cases in the Gaza Strip, with the first doses administered to 187,000 children.
A vaccination campaign was initiated after the occurrence of polio cases in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has been continuously attacking since October 7. In a statement made by the World Health Organization (WHO), it was noted that the first phase of the polio vaccination campaign has been completed and that the first doses have been administered to 187,000 children.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated in a post on social media that they have exceeded the target of vaccinating 156,000 children, saying, “Nevertheless, health workers will continue the vaccination campaign for an additional 3 days in 4 fixed locations in the center of Gaza to vaccinate all children. The vaccination campaign will now move to the south of Gaza.”
Ghebreyesus added, “Preparations are ongoing for the vaccination campaign that will begin tomorrow in southern Gaza. Despite the dire conditions in the Gaza Strip, we are grateful to all families and health workers for their dedication in successfully completing the first phase of the campaign. We continue to call for a ceasefire.”
