UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the government is “considering” imposing sanctions on the far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
The UK is evaluating the possibility of imposing sanctions on the far-right Israeli ministers. In a statement made in the House of Commons, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the government is “considering” sanctions against Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich.
Recalling Smotrich’s statement that “it may be justified and moral to starve 2 million people in Gaza” and Ben-Gvir’s comment labeling settlers who killed a 19-year-old in the West Bank as “heroes,” Starmer stated, “These are clearly disgusting remarks, especially in light of truly concerning other activities both in the West Bank and throughout the region.”
Starmer mentioned that the UK and France have called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the humanitarian situation in Gaza, stating, “Israel must take all possible steps to prevent civilian casualties, allow much more aid into Gaza, and effectively enable UN humanitarian partners to operate.”
