Subianto officially became the 8th President of Indonesia
Subianto, who was elected as the new president with 60% of the votes in the elections held on February 14 in Indonesia, was officially sworn in as the 8th president of Indonesia in a ceremony held in the House of Representatives today. The 73-year-old former Minister of Defense promised in his speech at the parliament to fight against internal issues such as corruption and to make the country self-sufficient. Stating that he would be a president for all Indonesians, Subianto called on the 280 million Indonesians to help face the country’s problems, saying, “We must always be aware that a free nation is a place where people are free. They must be freed from fear, poverty, hunger, ignorance, oppression, and suffering.”

Indonesian President Subianto, who promised to eliminate corruption in the country, stated, “There should be differences of opinion without hostility. We should fight without hatred.”

After the ceremony in the House of Representatives, Subianto took a tour in his vehicle through the streets of the capital, Jakarta. Thousands of people created a festive atmosphere on the streets, waving flags to greet the new president, while Subianto waved to the crowd from the sunroof of his vehicle as he headed towards the presidential palace.
