Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated, “With Trump’s victory, Hungary’s isolation has come to an end. We are no longer alone; the U.S. and its government are with us.” In a statement to a local television channel, Orban said that many were surprised by the election win of Donald Trump, the elected president of the U.S., but he had anticipated this outcome. He emphasized that the reason for this was that people in the U.S. and Europe were tired of war, migration, rising crime rates, terrorism, and gender issues, which led him to logically conclude that Trump would return. Orban highlighted that Trump’s arrival in office could bring peace and expand economic opportunities, thus aligning Hungary’s interests with those of the U.S. in many areas. He stressed that Trump should not be seen as a “savior” but rather as a “comrade-in-arms” supporting similar goals, stating, “It is up to us, the Hungarian government, to fight for Hungary’s interests.” Orban mentioned that Hungary’s feeling of loneliness on many issues was not coincidental, but now they were no longer alone, saying, “With Trump’s victory, Hungary’s isolation has come to an end. We are no longer alone; the U.S. and the U.S. government are with us.” He added, “I received an unexpected phone call from Trump while I was having tea with my wife one evening after the election results in the U.S. In our discussions, Trump expressed his willingness to discuss future cooperation. Orban noted that their direct communication was a harbinger of cooperation between the U.S. and Hungary. He stated that the European Union needed to change its war-hawk stance and that a common step towards peace was necessary, saying, “Europe cannot continue to do what it has done so far.”
