Germany Summons Russian Ambassador Due to Cyber Attacks

Germany summoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Nechayev to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to the cyber attacks that have been increasing since 2022. Russia was held responsible for these attacks.

Germany’s Accusations and Measures

The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs held Russia responsible for the cyber attacks and stated that they will take all necessary measures to prevent and respond to such attacks. It was also noted that institutions in the Czech Republic were targeted. Germany is making efforts to close security vulnerabilities.

Last Year’s Cyber Attacks and Statements

According to the German Ministry of the Interior, the attacks last year targeted various sectors in Germany. Statements indicated that the Russian military intelligence GRU-linked APT 28 exploited security vulnerabilities to hijack email accounts.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser emphasized in her statement that the cyber attacks carried out by Russia pose a threat to Germany’s democracy. Faeser highlighted the critical importance of combating such attacks before the European Parliament and other elections.
