According to a statement by Khan’s lawyers, the Islamabad High Court ruled in favor of Khan’s acquittal from the said accusation. Former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was found guilty in the same case, was also acquitted, while Khan, who has been in prison since August 2023, will continue to remain imprisoned due to the illegal marriage accusation against him. Imran Khan was accused of disclosing the contents of a confidential document sent by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Washington to the public for political gain. In January, Khan and Qureshi were sentenced to 10 years in prison in the case where they were tried for disclosing state secrets. Khan and his wife were sentenced to imprisonment for illegal marriage in Pakistan. A court ruled that Bushra Khan’s marriage to Imran Khan before the waiting period for a new marriage after divorce had expired was ‘illegal.’ Former Prime Minister Khan and Bushra Khan were each sentenced to 7 years in prison for ‘illegal marriage.’
