Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Ceyhun Bayramov, and Armenia’s Foreign Minister, Ararat Mirzoyan, met in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to discuss a peace agreement. The meeting took place at the Friendship House, where the Almaty Declaration was signed in 1991. Prior to the meeting, the parties were welcomed by Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister, Murat Nurtleu.

Support for the Peace Process

Minister Bayramov emphasized the importance of the discussions on normalizing Azerbaijan-Armenia relations as a significant element in the preparation of the peace agreement, stating, “We attach great importance to this process and are ready to continue the work. I am confident that the meetings in Almaty will be very beneficial. Another important milestone is the signing of the protocol initiating the process of delineating a section of the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border on April 19, 2024.”

Facilitating Transportation

Foreign Minister Mirzoyan stated that the process of delineating state borders between the two countries should be based on the Almaty Declaration, saying, “We can go further. With the understanding that all transportation infrastructure will be under the sovereignty of the countries it passes through and that border crossing procedures will be mutually implemented, we can remove all barriers to transportation in the region.”

President of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, welcomed the acceptance of the meeting by the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia for the preparation of a peace agreement upon Kazakhstan’s proposal.
