According to the United Nations Report, Gaza’s Reconstruction Could Take 80 Years
A report published by the United Nations (UN) stated that the reconstruction of the housing units destroyed as a result of Israel’s bombardments on the Gaza Strip could take up to 80 years. The report highlights that the scale of destruction in the region has significantly increased.
Israel’s ongoing attacks for the past 7 months have caused billions of dollars in damage in Gaza. Approximately 80,000 housing units have been destroyed in the region, and the supply of construction materials is also limited. The UN report suggests that even under the best scenario, the reconstruction of housing units in the Gaza Strip could be completed by the year 2040. However, it is expected that the poverty rates in the region will also increase significantly during this process.
The report emphasizes that along with the effects of destruction in Gaza, there could be a significant increase in poverty levels among the population. If the attacks continue, it is foreseen that the poverty rate will almost double, reaching 60.7%. In this case, it is stated that serious damages will occur in the economic and social structure of the region.
