In Chile, one of the favorite countries in South America, unexpected weather events continue to surprise the local residents. The recent snowfall in Santiago Metropolitan Region covering Lo Barnechea, Las Condes, Vitacura, Puente Alto, La Reina, and Pirque with a white blanket has astonished the streets.
The intense snowfall has caused ice formation, prompting authorities to warn citizens to be cautious. The Directorate of Electricity and Fuel announced that 225 thousand people were left without electricity. This situation negatively affects the daily life of the local population, while authorities diligently continue their snow removal efforts.
Most recently, the snowfall in July 2020 engraved in the memories of the region, where a similar weather event occurred in 2017. The occurrence of extraordinary natural events in Chile once again highlights how volatile the region’s climate is.
