The body of Russian opposition leader Navalny was delivered to his mother
The lifeless body of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in prison on February 16 in Russia, was delivered to his mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya.
While doubts persist about the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in prison on February 16, a new development occurred. Navalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, announced that Lyudmila Navalnaya, who was unable to receive her son’s funeral from Russian authorities last week, received the body at the morgue in the city of Salekhard today. Yarmysh stated that it is unclear how the funeral will be conducted, emphasizing that “it is not certain that Russian authorities will allow a funeral to be held as the family wishes and as Alexei deserves.”
She had identified Navalny
Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, had stated last Thursday that she was shown her son for identification purposes and had said that Russian authorities were pressuring her for his body to be secretly buried. Navalnaya had said, “They are making decisions about where, when, and how my son should be buried instead of me. They are looking me in the eye and telling me that if I don’t accept a secret funeral, they will do something to my son’s body. They say time is not on your side; the body is decaying.”
