US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during his Middle East tour, discussed the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Egypt. Blinken, as part of his Middle East tour, arrived in Egypt. In the capital Cairo, Blinken held a closed-door meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. According to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting reviewed the latest developments in joint efforts for achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as well as the exchange of prisoners and detainees. It was decided in the meeting to intensify the joint efforts at the current stage, and Egypt’s efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza were also discussed. President Sisi emphasized the importance of joint international efforts to remove obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid, and expressed the need to end the war on Gaza, prevent escalation of conflict, and make progress in implementing a two-state solution.
Blinken and Sisi discussed the restoration of peace. US Secretary of State Blinken expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Egyptian government in the political and humanitarian fields, and confirmed the desire to continue joint work and coordination between the two countries for the restoration of peace and security in the region. Blinken and Sisi also highlighted the strength of the Egypt-US strategic partnership and the willingness of both countries to maintain joint coordination on various issues and topics.
After his visit to Egypt, Blinken will proceed to Israel to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
