China Launches Chang’e-6 Spacecraft to Collect Samples from the Dark Side of the Moon
China continues its space exploration efforts. The Chang’e-6 spacecraft was launched into space from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Center in Hainan province with the Long March-5 rocket. It may take 4-5 days for the spacecraft to reach the moon’s orbit, and it is planned to land on the surface in early June.
As part of the 53-day mission, Chang’e-6 aims to collect rock and soil samples from the dark side of the moon and bring them back to Earth. It is expected to collect 2 kilograms of samples within 2 days after landing.
Science experts believe that the samples collected by Chang’e-6 could provide important data to reassess the evolution of the Moon and the Solar System and advance China’s lunar goals.
In 2019, China achieved a significant success by landing on the dark side of the Moon as part of the Chang’e-4 mission.
