John Kirby, the National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator, expressed deep disappointment and sadness regarding Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s recent statements claiming that the U.S. has not been providing weapons and ammunition to his country in the past few months. Kirby addressed journalists’ questions at a press briefing at the White House, stating that Netanyahu’s remarks were surprising and certainly disappointing. He emphasized that considering no country has done more than the U.S. to help Israel defend itself against the Hamas threat and other threats in the region, it was indeed disappointing. Kirby mentioned that President Joe Biden has deployed U.S. fighter jets to assist in shooting down unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles, including ballistic missiles fired from Iran to Israel. He added that no other country does more than the U.S. to support Israel’s self-defense. Therefore, Kirby expressed that the amount of support the U.S. will continue to provide to Prime Minister Netanyahu, given the circumstances, deeply disappointed and saddened them.
Netanyahu’s statement: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a video shared on his social media account on June 18, called on the U.S. to provide weapons. Referring to his recent meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Netanyahu expressed his appreciation for the support the U.S. has provided to Israel since the beginning of the war. However, he also mentioned his concerns about the incomprehensible situation of the U.S. not providing weapons and ammunition to Israel in the past few months. Netanyahu highlighted that as Israel, the closest ally of the U.S., fights for its life against Iran and other common enemies, he expects the U.S. administration to work tirelessly to remove any obstacles. He expressed hope that the situation is as he believes it should be and urged the U.S. to provide the weapons so that the job can be done faster.
