Two United Nations (UN) officials stated that if urgent steps are not taken to better protect humanitarian aid workers from Israel, the UN will suspend its aid operations in the Gaza Strip. Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip have been ongoing for 263 days, and the United Nations (UN) may suspend aid operations in the Gaza Strip due to the attacks. The two United Nations (UN) officials indicated that if Israel does not take urgent steps to better protect humanitarian aid workers, the UN will suspend its aid operations in the Gaza Strip. They mentioned that in a letter sent to senior Israeli officials this month, it was stated that Israel, among other measures, should facilitate direct communication between the UN staff and the Israeli forces in Gaza. Officials stated that a final decision has not been made regarding the suspension of operations in Gaza and that negotiations with the Israelis are ongoing. The World Food Programme (WFP), affiliated with the UN, had suspended aid distribution from the pier built by the USA in Gaza due to security concerns. According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), since October 7, 445 attacks damaging 188 different UN facilities have been reported by the Israeli army. Furthermore, the Israeli army has killed 193 UN personnel since October 7.
