Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, made important statements on gender equality at the meeting of MIKTA consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia in Mexico City. Kurtulmuş evaluated the steps taken for women’s rights and gender equality and pointed to future goals.
Women’s Participation in Society and Its Importance
Kurtulmuş emphasized that strengthening women’s participation in society is vital for the development and progress of society. He stated that women’s labor, sweat, and contribution are indispensable for society and highlighted the need to ensure women’s access to equal opportunities.
Empowerment of Women’s Status and Measures Taken
Kurtulmuş announced that Turkey has taken significant steps since 2002 to empower women’s status. He mentioned the establishment of the Commission on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men and the implementation of regulations enabling positive discrimination for women through constitutional amendments.
The Rise of Women in Education and Employment
Kurtulmuş emphasized that the duration of women’s education has increased in Turkey and their participation in the workforce has risen. He stated that significant steps have been taken in women’s participation in politics, expressing that Turkey has made significant progress in women’s rights and gender equality.
