Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico, Marcela Guerra Castillo, in the capital city of Mexico, Mexico City. Kurtulmuş, who is in Mexico City to attend the 10th Speakers of Parliament Meeting of MIKTA, continues his meetings in the capital.

Bilateral Relations and Collaborations

During the meeting, bilateral trade, cultural collaborations between Turkey and Mexico, as well as inter-parliamentary relations were discussed. Kurtulmuş emphasized that Turkey and Mexico constantly enhance their bilateral relations with a positive agenda. He also expressed the desire for the prompt signing of a free trade agreement as an important indicator of the improving relations between Turkey and Mexico.

Discussion of Global Issues

Furthermore, the humanitarian crisis resulting from Israel’s attacks on Gaza, as well as global and regional issues, were also discussed during the meeting. Kurtulmuş stated that the current world system lacks the ability to solve humanitarian problems such as global warming, migration, and climate change, and does not have the capacity to prevent wars.

Call for an International System and Struggle

Kurtulmuş emphasized the need for joint efforts to establish a fair, just, new international system. Pointing out the ineffectiveness of the international system in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the humanitarian crimes in Gaza, he expressed that the world needs to act to intervene in such urgent situations.

The Palestinian Issue and Mexico’s Stance

Kurtulmuş highlighted that the international community remains silent against the severe humanitarian crimes in Gaza and underscored the importance of countries standing by the Palestinian people. He also conveyed his gratitude for Mexico’s supportive stance towards the Palestinian people and shared the belief in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
