Following the meeting held at the Uzbekistan Presidential Palace, Kurtulmuş answered questions from Uzbek and Turkish media, stating that they had very productive meetings in Tashkent today and crowned them with the meeting they had with President Mirziyoyev. Kurtulmuş expressed that they had a very sincere, constructive, and pleasant meeting with Mirziyoyev, saying, ‘In this regard, we presented a summary of the meetings we had with the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Speaker of the Senate. We expressed that we closely follow the reform program initiated by President Mirziyoyev named the third great civilization march or Third Renaissance. We emphasized that this program is not only significant for Uzbekistan but also for the entire Islamic world and even for humanity as an important civilization project, especially for ensuring the unity and solidarity of the Turkic world in the coming period, and for establishing a new, just, and equitable system in the world. In this period, where our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who address each other as ‘my brother,’ are present, we confirmed our views mutually by joining hands and hearts to ensure the unity and solidarity of the Turkic world and to establish a new, just, and equitable world.’ Kurtulmuş stated that they had the opportunity to discuss the commercial, economic, and cultural relations between Turkey and Uzbekistan during the meeting, noting that President Mirziyoyev expressed his views on the possibilities to enhance trilateral parliamentary diplomacy between the Uzbekistan Legislative Assembly, the Uzbekistan Senate, and the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Kurtulmuş said, ‘Hopefully, as the Uzbekistan Legislative Assembly, the Uzbekistan Senate, and the Turkish Grand National Assembly, by activating our friendship groups, we will establish the bridges between the two countries in terms of parliamentary diplomacy in the shortest time. We will work diligently to strengthen the existing relations much more and to increase the possibilities of parliamentary diplomacy through friendship groups and specialty groups.’ Kurtulmuş conveyed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s greetings and best wishes to Mirziyoyev, stating, ‘He also sent his greetings to our President in the same way. I believe that the brotherhood and friendship between the two countries will bring great benefits to the region, the Turkic world, and humanity.’ When asked about what kind of work should be done to further strengthen the relations, Kurtulmuş mentioned, ‘There is an ongoing bilateral trade volume that has now exceeded 3 billion dollars. First of all, this should be raised to 5 billion dollars in the medium term and over 10 billion dollars in the long term. There is a great potential in the tourism sector besides commercial relations. Also, there are significant potentials in the national defense industry. High-level cooperation meetings are being held mutually. A high-level cooperation meeting will take place in Turkey in the upcoming period. These issues will be extensively discussed in these meetings where the two presidents attend as co-chairs. By accelerating the process that has already started, these relations will be sustained through concrete projects in a stronger way. Hopefully, it will be successful. Mirziyoyev expressed that he will attend the meeting in Turkey as well.’ Kurtulmuş also mentioned that they will sign an agreement soon to strengthen relations between the parliaments.
