Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, stated during his meeting with representatives of think tanks in the US that ‘In the upcoming period, for Turkey, both its relationship with NATO and the US are extremely vital especially at a time when the world is going through such an important and challenging process.’ Speaker Kurtulmuş, who is in Washington, the capital of the US for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, continues his contacts. Attending a program organized by the SETA Washington Center, Kurtulmuş met with representatives of think tanks in the US. Kurtulmuş emphasized that Turkey, by seriously maintaining its relations with NATO, is a country that has truly paid a price for NATO membership. He expressed the importance of new perspectives on how peace will be achieved and how NATO will strengthen democracy at the parliamentary and heads of state summits.
Kurtulmuş mentioned that Turkey’s relations with the US have always been given special importance, stating that ‘We have managed to resolve our issues with mutual understanding when problems arose. Even though we may have different opinions on common issues, we have managed to continue our cooperation as strategic allies while preserving our differences. In the upcoming period, for Turkey, both its relationship with NATO and the US are extremely vital especially at a time when the world is going through such an important and challenging process.’
‘The most distinctive feature of the new era is the concept of ‘multipolarity’,’ Kurtulmuş pointed out, emphasizing that the world is entering a new era where ideas generated on a single axis alone will not be sufficient to solve regional and global problems. He underlined Turkey’s importance in the face of various conflicts worldwide and the country’s aim to actively contribute to solving global and regional issues.
Kurtulmuş also highlighted the need for a new global political architecture that can address the significant challenges faced by the world today, emphasizing the importance of a perspective that promotes peace and well-being for all humanity.
Kurtulmuş emphasized the need for a rapid and principled normalization process with neighboring countries with whom there are issues, stating that Turkey is actively engaged in efforts to resolve problems in its close vicinity and to establish a peace perspective.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening Turkey’s relations with regions where the country has significant influence, such as the Turkic world extending from Central Asia to the Balkans, and the Islamic world from Morocco to Indonesia.
