South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol stated, “We must clearly express that any invasion attempt by North Korea, which dreams of forced unification and covets South Korea, will lead to the end of the Pyongyang regime.”
While military tensions between North Korea and South Korea continue, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol issued a warning. During his visit to the Army Operations Command in the city of Yongin, where he received information from officials about the joint Ulchi Freedom Shield exercises conducted with the United States, Yoon warned about North Korea’s provocations in his speech. Yoon said, “The North Korean regime is the most dangerous group in the world that can provoke at any moment. Only our army’s strong military preparedness can prevent their miscalculations.”
Emphasizing that joint military exercises with the United States strengthen the allies’ unified defense posture, Yoon remarked, “We must clearly state that any invasion attempt by North Korea, which dreams of forced unification and covets South Korea, will lead to the end of the Pyongyang regime.”
Yoon drew attention to the danger of the weapon systems in North Korea, stating, “It is important to neutralize Pyongyang’s long-range artillery and missile bases in the initial phases of a possible war.”
South Korea and the U.S. had started joint exercises
South Korea and the United States began the 11-day joint Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise on August 19, conducted within the framework of a total war scenario. It was announced that 48 field training exercises would be held, including amphibious landings and live-fire drills, as part of the exercise, which also includes computer simulations and civil defense training.
