The Second Round of Elections Has Begun

Voting process for the second round of the 12th term Islamic Consultative Assembly elections has started in Iran. Today, the public has begun to vote by going to the ballot box. Voters started to cast their votes at the ballot boxes set up at the Husseiniyeh-e Ershad Mosque in Tehran starting from 08:00 local time. While voting takes place in a total of 11,500 centers in 22 regions for the voters, electronic ballot boxes are used for the first time in 8 regions including Tehran. Voting for the 45 seats in the assembly, where 90 candidates are competing, will end at 18:00 local time.

Voters’ Expectations

Ali Riza Keshaverzi, who came to vote, expressed his expectations by saying, “Our expectation as voters is for the members of parliament elected with our votes to stay true to the promises and commitments they made. At least let the people see that their votes have not been wasted. This way, the trust of the people is gained.”

Voter Meysem Nosrati said, “I am happy to be able to participate in the future of my country and its political process. As a young person, my expectation from politicians is for them to think more thoroughly about the country’s problems and come up with solutions.”

Families’ Participation

Mehrnoosh Sadeghi, an Iranian who came to vote with her family, stated, “We are content with our leaders as long as they develop the country by keeping their promises. Today, we came as a family to vote because it’s girls’ day in Iran. Hopefully, it will be for the good of our country.”
