Putin met with IAEA President Grossi
Russian President Vladimir Putin, meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) President Rafael Grossi, stated that they are one of the leading countries in the world in the field of nuclear energy, saying, “We are doing everything to enhance the security of nuclear facilities.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) President Rafael Grossi in Sochi, Russia. Alexey Likhachev, Director-General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM), also attended the meeting. Putin emphasized the importance of nuclear facility security, stating, “We continue our active cooperation with the IAEA. We remain undisputed leaders in this field worldwide. We not only operate nuclear energy but also actively develop and view it as an environmentally friendly energy source. We are doing everything to enhance the security of nuclear facilities. We are building new power plants based on modern principles.” Addressing cooperation with the IAEA, Putin said, “As you know, we are doing a lot of work in this area internationally, and with your help and support, we are implementing numerous projects in many countries around the world. I know that today’s meeting agenda includes very sensitive and important issues. Of course, we are ready to discuss these and do everything to ensure security at every point where we have a relationship with nuclear energy.”
Grossi, speaking at the meeting, mentioned that they had a meeting with Putin about 2 years ago in St. Petersburg and stated that they would discuss the updated issues at this meeting.
Grossi had previously stated that they planned a meeting with Putin regarding the military movements around the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, annexed from Ukraine.
