Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that if NATO provides warplanes to Poland, they could transfer their MIG-29 aircraft to Ukraine.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the capital of Poland, Warsaw. Prime Minister Tusk, during a press conference held after the meeting, mentioned that if NATO allies supply warplanes to Poland, they could offer their MIG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. Tusk emphasized that transferring the existing MIG-29s to Ukraine without new warplanes could harm Poland’s security and stated that with NATO’s support, Polish commanders could be convinced to transfer the MIG-29s to Ukraine.

“No one has the right to decide on peace and its form for the future on behalf of Ukraine without Ukraine”
Tusk also criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss peace in Ukraine. Tusk said, “No one has the right to decide on peace and its form for the future on behalf of Ukraine without Ukraine. No one has the right to negotiate with Moscow on behalf of Poland and the entire European Union without an agreement with Ukraine and us.”

Poland’s aid to Ukraine exceeds 4 billion euros
Zelensky thanked the Polish people for their support to Ukraine so far and assured that after the end of the war, Ukrainian companies will invite Polish firms to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Within the scope of the Tusk-Zelensky meeting, a security agreement was signed between Poland and Ukraine. According to the agreement, Poland will continue its aid to Ukraine for the next 10 years. It was also mentioned that the cost of Poland’s assistance to Ukraine has exceeded 4 billion euros, and the 14 MIG-29 fighter jets in Poland’s possession are planned to remain in the Polish army until the delivery of the F-35s purchased in previous years in 2027.

“If the Ukrainian people show the will to join NATO, NATO cannot hesitate”
Following Tusk, Zelensky met with Polish President Andrzej Duda. The two leaders met before the NATO Summit, which will begin in Washington DC tomorrow, and later addressed the cameras. Duda stated that his country has supported Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations from the beginning, saying, “If the Ukrainian people show the will to join NATO, NATO cannot hesitate, Ukraine must be accepted into NATO.” Zelensky, on the other hand, thanked Poland for supporting Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty from the beginning, stating that Duda is the “advocate of Ukraine” in the European Union and NATO.
