Pedophile suspect on UK’s “most wanted” list caught at airport
Richard Burrows, an 80-year-old man wanted for child sexual abuse charges in the UK and who had been on the run for 27 years, was arrested by police at Heathrow Airport in London during his return from Thailand to the UK.
Richard Burrows, aged 80, who was charged with sexually abusing 11 children between 1969 and 1971 in the UK, was captured 27 years after he fled in 1997. Burrows was detained by police at Heathrow Airport in London during his return from Thailand to the UK.
According to reports from the Cheshire Police unit in the UK, Burrows, who faced charges of 11 different child abuses and sexual offenses in various parts of the country between 1969 and 1971, failed to appear at his court hearing in December 1997 and has been on the “most wanted” list since then.
Detective Inspector Eleanor Atkinson stated in a press release that the British police’s patience and determination in finding Burrows had been maintained for many years, and justice would be served, albeit belatedly. Atkinson also noted that the operation to track down and apprehend the fugitive Burrows was a joint effort between UK Police and the National Crime Agency (NCA) Thailand units.
Burrows, who is currently in custody, is expected to appear before the Chester Crown Court for the first time today.
