The President of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, announced that negotiations for the preparation of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia will take place in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan.

President Tokayev stated, “I welcome the mutual agreement of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia to hold discussions in preparation for the peace agreement at the proposal of the Kazakh side. The significance of this important meeting being held in Almaty, where the historic Almaty Declaration was signed in December 1991, solidifying the foundations of independent development of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and approving the principles regarding the determination of borders between countries, carries a symbolic meaning.”

Tokayev emphasized that the discussions in Almaty will pave the way for the practical implementation of the Azerbaijan-Armenia agreements and contribute to establishing permanent and long-term peace in the South Caucasus region as soon as possible.
