The Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, who came to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, stated, “We are here with a very strong team in order not to leave our Azerbaijani brothers alone under the motto of two states, one nation.”
The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change has begun in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumaklı, and Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek inaugurated the Turkish pavilion established within the scope of COP29.
Minister Yumaklı indicated that they would present Turkey’s perspective on issues related to water efficiency mobilization and afforestation, wishing for the three-day event to be beneficial and auspicious.
Minister Kurum stated that they arrived at COP29 with a strong team representing Turkey, saying, “We will share our country’s fight against climate change, our strategies regarding the target of net zero emissions by 2053 announced by our President to the world, hopefully here with the whole world. This COP has a special significance. COP29 is being held in our dear Azerbaijan. We are here with a very strong team in order not to leave our Azerbaijani brothers alone under the motto of two states, one nation. We will explain our goals, our projects. We will also share our country’s strategy regarding 2053 with all countries of the world here. Our stand will reflect our country’s values.”
Emphasizing that they would convey both zero waste and Turkey’s fight against climate change at COP29 under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan’s ‘zero waste’ project, Kurum said, “Our projects and presentations will be here. All our ministries and municipalities will hopefully share the projects and goals that our country, under the leadership of our esteemed President, has carried out with the whole world. Besides the fact that this COP is held in Azerbaijan, there will also be a COP meeting related to finance. Hopefully, our Ministry of Treasury and Finance and we will continue our fight regarding our country’s access to finance. I hope that we will achieve gains here in terms of access to finance for our investments and projects in our fight against climate change. I say that our stand will be beneficial for the COP meeting, for our country, and for our nation.”
After the opening ceremony, the ministers toured the Turkish pavilion.
