French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the war in Gaza, where Israel continues its attacks, needs to come to an end. President Macron expressed his support for the ceasefire proposal announced by U.S. President Joe Biden in a post on his social media accounts in French, Arabic, English, and Hebrew languages. Macron used the words ‘The war in Gaza must end. We support the proposal announced by the U.S. for a permanent peace.’ He emphasized that a permanent ceasefire is necessary for the release of hostages, peace, and progress towards a two-state solution. Biden had announced a 3-stage ceasefire proposal. U.S. President Joe Biden announced yesterday evening that Israel had offered a new ceasefire proposal to Hamas through Qatar, stating that the new proposal is a ‘roadmap for a permanent ceasefire and the release of all prisoners.’ Biden had explained that the first stage of the 3-stage proposal envisaged Israel’s withdrawal from settlements in Gaza during a 6-week ceasefire period and the release of some of the prisoners held by both sides. In the second stage of the plan, Biden had noted that in exchange for the release of all living prisoners, including Israeli soldiers, the Israeli army would withdraw from the Gaza Strip. In the final stage, Biden had mentioned that a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza would be initiated.
