A funeral ceremony will be held tomorrow for Ismail Haniye, the Hamas Political Bureau Chief, who was killed in an assassination in Tehran, the capital of Iran. The funeral prayer for Haniye will be led by Iran’s religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Haniye was killed in an assassination while in Tehran for the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. According to a statement from Khamenei’s office, it was announced that Khamenei would lead Haniye’s funeral prayer. After the prayer, which will be held at Tehran University, Haniye’s body will be taken to Azadi Square in Tehran accompanied by the public. Following the ceremony, Haniye’s body is expected to be buried in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
Assassinated in Tehran
Ismail Haniye, the Hamas Political Bureau Chief, was killed in an assassination while he was in Tehran for the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Following the attack, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement saying, “Undoubtedly, the Iranian regime and the resistance front will respond harshly and painfully to this crime by the Israeli regime.”
3-day national mourning
The Iranian government announced that a 3-day national mourning was declared in the country following the airstrike that resulted in the death of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniye at his residence in the capital Tehran.
Khamenei vows revenge
Iran’s religious leader Ali Khamenei released a written statement regarding Haniye’s death, stating, “The killer and terrorist Zionist regime (Israel) has deeply saddened us by martyring our valuable guest in our home, but it has also prepared the ground for a severe punishment against itself. We see it as our duty to take revenge for Haniye’s blood.”
