Kamala Harris stated that Israel has the right to defend itself, but how it does so is important. Harris said, “Too many innocent Palestinians have lost their lives. We need to ensure that a deal is reached. This war must end.”

The U.S. Vice President and Democratic Party presidential candidate Kamala Harris gave an interview to CNN along with Minnesota Governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

She responded to a question about why she changed her political views.
In the program, Harris answered a question regarding the use of hydraulic fracturing methods for extracting shale gas and its derivatives, and the decriminalization of illegal border crossings in the U.S. The Democratic Party candidate stated, “The most important and significant aspect of my political perspective and decisions is that the values I hold have not changed.”

Previously opposing hydraulic fracturing due to its environmental damage, Harris changed her position during the election process. She said, “For example, we need to set targets for the U.S. and consequently the world to achieve specific standards for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. There has been no change in my values regarding this issue.”

Republican Cabinet Pledge
Harris, who promised to include a Republican politician in her cabinet if elected, stated that she does not have any names in mind for this. She said, “I think it would be beneficial for the American public to have a Republican member in the cabinet.”

Responding to a question from CNN anchor Dana Bash about why she had not fulfilled her current promises during the 3.5 years of Biden’s administration, Harris said, “First, we needed to recover the economy, and we did that. I am proud of the work we did to bring inflation below 3%.”

During the period when the COVID-19 pandemic was rapidly spreading, Harris mentioned that she and President Joe Biden made significant progress in the economy. She said, “The economy had collapsed. This was largely due to Donald Trump’s mismanagement of the crisis. When we took office, our top priority was to do everything we could to save America.”

While praising the economic policies of the Biden administration, Harris acknowledged the problems in the economy, stating, “Prices, especially for grocery shopping, are still very high.”

She explained her position on Palestine and Israel.
In her first interview with a major television network since becoming the Democratic Party candidate, Harris expressed her support for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine. She emphasized that while Israel has the right to defend itself, “how it does so is important,” stating, “Too many innocent Palestinians have lost their lives. We need to ensure that a deal is reached. This war must end.” Harris also reiterated her unwavering commitment to Israel’s defense and right to self-defense, stating, “We need to come to an agreement on the release of hostages.”

Biden’s Withdrawal Call
Harris mentioned that President Joe Biden informed her by phone in July of his decision to withdraw from the presidential race. She said, “The phone rang, and it was Joe Biden calling. He explained his decision to me, and I asked him, ‘Are you sure?’ He said he was sure, and that’s how I learned about it.”

Harris expressed that Biden was quite clear about supporting her candidacy for president.
