Four ships belonging to the US Navy have set sail from the state of Virginia in the United States to build a port on the coast of the Gaza Strip to deliver humanitarian aid by sea. Brigadier General Brad Hinson said in a statement to reporters that a new facility consisting of an offshore platform for transferring aid from large ships to small ships and a dock for unloading onto land is expected to be operational “within 60 days.”
Hinson stated that about 500 soldiers from the 7th Transportation Battalion would be involved in the operation, saying, “They can provide sustainment support over water in challenging environments. They have been trained to do this and have participated in many exercises to provide this capability.”
