In the Al-Aqsa Mosque located in occupied East Jerusalem, 40 thousand Muslims attended the first Friday prayer of Ramadan.
While the Israeli army continues its attacks on the Gaza Strip for 161 days, Palestinians in the West Bank flocked to Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform the first Friday prayer of Ramadan. Thousands of Palestinians headed to Al-Aqsa Mosque early in the morning, passing through the military checkpoints set up by Israel. However, Israeli forces prevented the entry of many Palestinians. While entry to Al-Aqsa, the first qibla of Muslims, was allowed for men over 55 and women over 50, some who did not fall under the age restrictions were turned away for not having an “entry permit.” While the Israeli police announced that 40 thousand people entered Al-Aqsa Mosque, thousands of Palestinians who were allowed to enter performed the first Friday prayer of Ramadan under the shadow of the war in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli restrictions on those wishing to worship at Al-Aqsa
There are no restrictions on Palestinians in East Jerusalem entering Al-Aqsa Mosque to worship. However, there is an age restriction for those coming from the occupied West Bank. Additionally, these Palestinians are required to apply for permission in advance. They are asked to pass through checkpoints on the roads to Jerusalem early in the morning and return by local time at 17:00.
