Mexico and Ecuador Blamed Each Other
In the case filed by Mexico accusing Ecuador of violating international law by forcibly entering the Mexican Embassy in Quito, the parties blamed each other. The Ecuadorian government defended that the embassy raid was an unusual and isolated act, rejecting the allegations of violating international law. Mexico, on the other hand, accused Ecuador of exploiting diplomatic asylum practices to obstruct justice.
Mexico’s Request for Provisional Measures
Within the scope of the case, Mexico requested the International Court of Justice to issue provisional measures to protect Mexico’s diplomatic missions in Quito. Ecuador’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Teran, stated that such measures were unnecessary, emphasizing that Ecuador guarantees the security of Mexico’s diplomatic missions and assets in the country.
