Following Argentine President Javier Milei’s characterization of Colombian President Gustavo Petro as a “terrorist,” the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered the deportation of Argentine diplomats.

In an interview with a US-based news channel by Argentine President Javier Milei, the “derogatory” remarks he made about Colombian President Gustavo Petro did not go unanswered by Colombia. In a statement issued by the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the “terrorist,” “murderer,” and “communist” remarks used by Milei for Petro, which have not yet been fully published, it ordered the deportation of Argentine diplomats from their embassies. The statement used the phrase, “The comments of the Argentine President have not only offended the dignity of President Petro, who was elected through democratic means, but also undermined the trust of our nation.”

Following similar comments made by Argentine President Milei in January, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had recalled its Ambassador to Buenos Aires.
