An unnamed official from the United States made statements regarding the ceasefire negotiations in Cairo that did not yield the desired outcome. According to the official, Hamas’s request for a 12-week ceasefire was rejected by Israel on the grounds that it meant ‘stopping the attacks’.
While Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip continued, ceasefire negotiations between Israeli and Hamas delegations in Cairo remained inconclusive. The U.S. official stated that the duration of the ceasefire was a significant obstacle in the negotiations.
With Hamas’s 12-week ceasefire request being rejected by Israel during the negotiation process, no agreement could be reached between the parties. It is also noted that in previous talks, Hamas had agreed to a 6-month ceasefire.
