The European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, stated, ‘We reject attempts to label UNRWA as a terrorist organization.’ The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, met with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini. Borrell conveyed that Lazzarini expressed his inability to find words to describe the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, stating, ‘Every day, deaths are followed by more deaths. People are not only losing their lives, but also hope and social fabric are being destroyed. We must put an end to this tragedy that offends our conscience and humanity. I reiterated the EU’s support to UNRWA, praising their work and team. Member States continued their financial support. The next tranche of the EU fund is on its way. We reject attempts to label UNRWA as a terrorist organization. It continues to be an indispensable lifeline for Palestinians’.
