Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, in his speech at the BRICS session, stated, “We are now cooperating on climate issues between the south and the north. Whether it is related to climate change or issues such as global security, the supremacy of international law, non-interference in internal affairs, and mutual respect, we will continue our efforts to reach a common understanding.”
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev spoke at the Expanded BRICS Session held in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, which is connected to Russia. Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan is an active supporter of the principle of multilateralism in international relations, stating, “This situation has been clearly demonstrated by us during our presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement from 2020 to 2023. During the four-year presidency, the Non-Aligned Movement has made significant strides in its institutional development and has significantly strengthened its position in the international relations system. Our successful experience in presiding over the Movement today helps us as the current president of the Conference on Cooperation and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.”
Emphasizing that Azerbaijan has become one of the important transportation and logistics centers of Eurasia thanks to the modern infrastructure it has created by utilizing its geographical location, Aliyev said, “The east-west and north-south transport corridors pass through our territories. All parts of these transport routes located in Azerbaijan are successfully operational. Considering the sharp increase in the flow of cargo passing through our territories, we are making additional investments to increase the capacity of these corridors.”
“We will continue our efforts to reach a common understanding”
Recalling that Baku will host the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in November, Aliyev remarked, “The unanimous decision of approximately 200 countries to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan is a clear indication of the respect and support for the policy we pursue. We are now cooperating on climate issues between the south and the north. Whether it is related to climate change or issues such as global security, the supremacy of international law, non-interference in internal affairs, and mutual respect, we will continue our efforts to reach a common understanding.”
