A man who set out to sea with a boat made from PET bottles got stranded
A homeless man, known as “Uncle Somkiat,” set out from the coast to go to Ko Lan Island, located 7.5 kilometers away, with a boat made from PET bottles, but got stranded in the middle of the sea due to strong winds. The desperate man was rescued by the coast guard teams upon receiving a report.
The 53-year-old homeless man, known as “Uncle Somkiat,” in the city of Pattaya, Thailand, set out to sea yesterday morning with a boat made from PET bottles to go to Ko Lan Island, located 7.5 kilometers away. However, his boat started drifting due to strong winds and powerful currents. A speedboat that noticed the situation reported it to the coast guard. The coast guard team sprang into action and found the drifting man approximately 2.4 kilometers away from the shore. As the man was taken aboard the boat, his boat made from PET bottles was also tethered to the coast guard vessel and towed to the shore. It was learned that the man, who was homeless and made a living by collecting plastic, set out to sea early in the morning but lost control of the boat due to the strong winds later in the day.
