Opening of the Forum and Participants

The 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, held at the Heydar Aliyev Center in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, began with an official opening ceremony. Guests from various countries around the world, Azerbaijani state and government officials, members of parliament, representatives of religious communities, and diplomatic representatives attended the opening ceremony.

Speech by President Ilham Aliyev

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated in his speech at the forum that Azerbaijan has been making intensive efforts for peace and has engaged in peace negotiations with Armenia. Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan is conducting negotiations and expressed that positive steps towards peace are being taken.

Peace Process and Determination of Borders

President Aliyev mentioned that after regaining territorial integrity and sovereignty last September, Azerbaijan faced political attacks from external supporters of Armenia. However, he announced that they continue to offer peace proposals and have started the process of determining borders.

Foreign Intervention and Desire for Peace

The President of Azerbaijan criticized countries that seek to intervene in the peace process, emphasizing that they desire peace in the South Caucasus and that normalization in the region can only be achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He stated their opposition to foreign interventions.

Azerbaijan’s Role and Future Summit

Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s role as a bridge due to its geographical location and interaction with European institutions, mentioning that Azerbaijan will host the United Nations Climate Summit (COP29) in November and stating that the country contributes to peace processes.
