A meaningful event was held in Tokyo within the framework of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Turkey. The TCG Kınalıada Corvette visited the port in Tokyo. Princess Akiko, daughter of Japan’s Prince Tomohito, Japan’s Defense Minister Minoru Kihara, Japan’s Minister of Digital Transformation Taro Kano, along with many government officials, diplomats from various countries, and military representatives attended the cocktail reception held on the ship’s deck.
“A very important and valuable visit”
Turkey’s Ambassador to Tokyo, Korkut Güngen, stated that the TCG Kınalıada Corvette arrived in Tokyo after visiting Kushimoto, where the Ertuğrul Frigate disaster occurred, and said, “This comprehensive visit to Japan was made within the scope of the 100th anniversary of our diplomatic relations with Japan. We find this visit very important and valuable, considering it befitting the friendship between Japan and Turkey.” Güngen emphasized the historical significance of TCG Kınalıada Corvette’s visit to Japan in terms of commemorating our martyrs, stating, “I would like to emphasize one more point that this visit showcases the global reach and capabilities of the Turkish Armed Forces and provides an opportunity to demonstrate the level our defense industry has reached to different countries including Japan. In this respect, we are very proud.”

The Commander of TCG Kınalıada Corvette, Lieutenant Colonel Serkan Doğan, mentioned that the port visits in Japan were conducted within the scope of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Japan and the 134th anniversary of the Ertuğrul Frigate disaster, stating, “Before coming to Tokyo, we held onshore ceremonies in Kushimoto.”
