Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), stated regarding the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, “Currently, only 14% of the areas in Gaza are not under evacuation orders.”
Israel continues to issue new evacuation orders to civilians in the Gaza Strip every day. Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, said in a statement about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, “Currently, only 14% of the areas in Gaza are not under evacuation orders. Israeli authorities are publishing these orders every day, forcing people to flee and creating chaos and panic.”
Lazzarini noted that due to the constant issuance of evacuation orders, displaced Palestinians often have only a few hours to gather what they can and start anew, explaining that Palestinians generally walk to areas deemed safe.

“A person recently told our UNRWA teams that they had to flee twice within ten hours.” Lazzarini expressed that almost all Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are affected by these evacuation orders, stating, “Since the war began nine months ago, many have had to flee on average once a month. A person recently told our UNRWA teams that they had to flee twice within ten hours. People continue to seek safety.” He emphasized that these evacuation orders bring only more misery, fear, and pain to people who are not related to this war, stating, “The people of Gaza are not pinballs or chess pieces; they are human beings.”
