Rising Support for Palestine in Actions at US Universities
Support for Palestine and reactions against Israel continue to rise at various universities in the US. Starting at Columbia University, this movement has also resonated at the University of Virginia. Students at the University of Virginia faced police intervention as they set up a camp in support of Palestine on campus.
The police intervened in the anti-Israel camp set up by students, demanding them to disperse. However, as the students resisted, a clash erupted and the police had to resort to using pepper spray. Among the 25 people detained were students identified as entering the university without permission.
Palestine Protests at University Graduation Ceremonies
In addition to the events at the University of Virginia, pro-Palestine demonstrations are ongoing at other universities in the US. Pro-Palestine protests were organized at graduation ceremonies held at the University of Michigan and Indiana University.
During the graduation ceremony at Indiana University, supporters of Palestine entered the hall and chanted slogans while the rector was speaking. Similarly, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, police intervened in support camps for Palestine and detained 68 individuals.
