South Korean Army Conducted Exercise in Yellow Sea

The South Korean army conducted a 3-day defense exercise around the border islands in the Yellow Sea in response to the security concerns arising from North Korea’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile program. The exercise involved elements from land, air, and naval forces. UH-60 and CH-47 helicopters, F-15K and KF-16 fighter jets, as well as warships of various sizes participated in the exercise. The exercise included real shooting tests and counter-terrorism operations were also staged.

North Korea’s Nuclear Threats

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un had conducted hundreds of artillery firings north of the Northern Limit Line in the Yellow Sea in January, threatening nuclear attacks. Kim stated that in case of enemies initiating a war, they would mobilize all military forces and take provocations for war seriously. South Korea’s recent exercise was seen as a warning to North Korea, escalating tensions in the region.
