North Korea: “Padasuri-6 Missile Launched from Land to Sea Tested”
North Korea announced that the new type of Padasuri-6 missile, launched from land to sea, was tested in a missile test conducted yesterday. The country’s leader Kim Jong-un stated, “When the enemy crosses the maritime border accepted by us, we will perceive it as a violation of North Korea’s sovereignty and an armed provocation.”
North Korea, which has accelerated its weapons program in the new year challenging South Korea and the United States, made a statement regarding the missile test conducted yesterday. It was reported in the official North Korean media that the missile tested was the new type of Padasuri-6 missile launched from land to sea and was tested under the supervision of the country’s leader Kim Jong-un. It was stated that the launched missiles flew for approximately 23 minutes over the East Sea before hitting the target vessel. No information was provided about the number of missiles fired.
Challenging South Korea
Expressing satisfaction with the test result, country leader Kim Jong-un stated that South Korea seriously violated its sovereignty under the pretext of maritime patrols and allowed warships to enter North Korean waters. Kim, who argued that Seoul is trying to defend a ghostly “northern boundary line” with no basis in international law, emphasized that his country should defend its maritime sovereignty not with “statements or public announcements” but with “weapons and action power” decisively.
“We will consider border violation as armed provocation”
Kim, especially instructing to increase military preparations in the maritime border area north of Yeonpyeong Island and Baengnyeong Island, stated, “When the enemy crosses the maritime border accepted by us, we will perceive it as a violation of North Korea’s sovereignty and an armed provocation.” Kim emphasized that the North Korean army will defend the sovereignty and security of the state using its legitimate right to self-defense.
Pyongyang had launched multiple missiles yesterday
In a statement from the South Korean military yesterday, it was reported that North Korea had fired multiple cruise missiles off the country’s eastern coast. The latest missile test was recorded as Pyongyang’s 5th cruise missile test of the year. North Korea had tested a new strategic cruise missile called “Pulhwasal-3-31,” meaning “Flaming Arrow,” on January 24th and 28th, and tested another strategic cruise missile called “Hwasal-2,” meaning “Arrow,” on January 30th. Pyongyang had announced on February 2nd that it tested a cruise missile carrying a “super-large warhead” along with a new type of anti-aircraft missile.
