French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau criticized the “Free Palestine” banner displayed by PSG fans in the stands before the match between Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain last night, stating it was “unacceptable.”
In the Champions League, Atletico Madrid faced Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Parc des Princes Stadium in the capital Paris yesterday. Before the match, PSG fans displayed a banner reading “Free Palestine” in support of Palestine. The response to the PSG fans’ support came from French Minister Bruno Retailleau. Criticizing this support from the PSG fans, the French Minister said, “Unacceptable.” In a statement to the press, Retailleau responded to the question of whether a sanction would be imposed on PSG by saying, “I do not dismiss anything. I will request an explanation from PSG.”
The banner depicted a person wearing a keffiyeh, and the letter “i” in the slogan “Free Palestine” was illustrated as a map of Palestine, which includes Gaza and the West Bank under Israeli occupation.
