Croatian President Milanovic announced candidacy for prime minister
Croatian President Zoran Milanovic announced that he will compete as the opposition’s prime minister candidate in the April elections and will resign from the presidency after the assured victory in the elections.
Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, who has been in the spotlight with harsh criticisms of the EU’s Ukraine policies, announced that he will compete as the prime minister candidate of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the parliamentary elections to be held on April 17th. In a joint press conference with SDP President Pedja Grbin, Milanovic stated, “There are moments in everyone’s life when we need to step out of our comfort zone and leave behind the ordinary and the usual. That moment has come knocking at my door as well.”
Promising a determined and clean governance with the “National salvation” government they will form, Milanovic said, “We will take down the thieves, oppressors, and their accomplices, and this time we will prevent them from coming back for a long time.”
“This year, I have decided to compete as an independent candidate”
In a statement published on social media, Milanovic said, “This year, I have decided to compete as an independent candidate on the SDP list in the parliamentary elections to be held on April 17th in Croatia. After the elections, which I am confident of winning, I will resign from the presidency of Croatia and take on the task of leading the government of the Republic of Croatia together with the newly formed government in the parliament. Within the framework of my constitutional obligations and responsibilities, I continue my duties as the President of Croatia.”
