Bridge under construction collapsed in the Netherlands: 2 dead
At least 2 workers were reported dead and 2 others injured as a result of the collapse of a bridge under construction in the Netherlands.
A tragic accident occurred in the eastern Dutch city of Lochem. It was reported that during the installation of the arch of a bridge under construction yesterday, the ropes snapped and a part of the bridge collapsed. According to officials, the accident resulted in the death of 2 workers from Belgium and Poland, with 2 others injured. The site of the incident was cordoned off for security, and the injured were taken to the hospital.
While the injured are not in critical condition, an investigation into the incident has been launched. Lochem Mayor Sebastiaan van’t Erve stated, “We had been planning to build this road for 20 years. We’ve been constructing it for 5 years. Then, everything collapsed in just one day.” The Mayor, expressing that there is no evidence yet regarding the cause of the accident and that investigations are ongoing, said, “My priority is to support the people affected by this terrible accident.”
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased in his statement.
