Brazilian President Lula: “What’s happening in the Gaza Strip is not a war, it’s genocide”
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, stating, “What’s happening in the Gaza Strip is not a war, it’s genocide.”
Speaking in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, where he attended the African Union summit, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva commented on the ongoing attacks by Israel on the Gaza Strip. Lula said, “What’s happening in the Gaza Strip is not a war, it’s genocide. This is not a war between soldiers. It’s a war between a highly prepared army and women and children.” Lula pointed out that Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip are similar to the Holocaust, stating, “What’s happening to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip has not been seen in any other period in history. Actually, it has, when Hitler decided to kill Jews.”
Reaction from Israel to Lula
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced that following Lula’s statement, instructions were given to call Brazil’s ambassador to Israel to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tomorrow. Katz said, “The words of the Brazilian President are disgraceful and serious. No one can undermine Israel’s right to self-defense. I have instructed my office staff to call the Brazilian Ambassador for a condemnation meeting tomorrow.”
