In France, activists threw soup at the Mona Lisa painting

A protest took place again at the Louvre Museum in the capital city of France, Paris. Two activists, wearing t-shirts with “food response” written, threw soup at the Mona Lisa painting, created by Leonardo da Vinci in the 16th century, displayed in the museum. The activists demanded the “right to healthy and sustainable food.” Following the attack, the painting, protected by bulletproof glass, did not suffer any damage.

The painting has been attacked multiple times The Mona Lisa painting had previously been damaged in the early 1950s when a visitor poured acid on it, leading to the placement of the artwork behind security glass. In 2019, the Louvre Museum announced the installation of a more transparent form of bulletproof glass to protect the painting. In 2022, another activist threw a pie at the painting, urging people to “think about the world.” Additionally, in 1911, Vincenzo Peruggia, an employee of the Louvre Museum, stole the painting after hiding it in a closet overnight. He was caught two years later while trying to sell it to an antique dealer in the city of Florence, Italy.
