Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy confirmed that North Korean soldiers faced off against Ukrainian soldiers at the front, stating, “The first clashes with North Korean soldiers have opened a new page of instability in the world.”

While reactions continue to North Korea sending soldiers to Russia to fight against Ukraine, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy made new statements regarding the issue. In a video explaining the recent measures taken and efforts made in the war with Russia, Zelenskiy addressed the North Korea issue, saying, “I would like to thank everyone who reacted to the deployment of North Korean soldiers to Russia.”

Noting that some countries support Ukraine not just with words but also by backing its defense, Zelenskiy stated, “Terror can unfortunately spread like a virus when it does not face an adequate response.” He emphasized that their reactions must be “sufficient” and “strong,” confirming that North Korean soldiers and Ukrainian soldiers have faced each other at the front, and said, “The first clashes with North Korean soldiers have opened a new page of instability in the world.”

Calling for support from the international community, Zelenskiy expressed, “Together with the world, we must do everything possible to thwart Russia’s steps to expand and escalate the war.”

Ukrainian Defense Minister had confirmed the clash

It has been publicly reported that North Korea sent soldiers to Russia to fight against Ukraine, and yesterday, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov confirmed that Ukrainian and North Korean troops faced each other for the first time at the front. Umerov stated that the Ukrainian and North Korean soldiers had “engaged in a small-scale conflict,” adding that “the conflict was not at a level systematically organized with all forces mobilized.” Andrey Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Combating Disinformation, also stated, “North Korean military units were first fired upon in Kursk.”
