U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during his visit to Cairo. Blinken started his visit to Egypt and met with President el-Sisi in the capital, Cairo. The meeting, held at the Ittihadiye Palace, addressed bilateral relations as well as regional issues, particularly Gaza. Along with the U.S. delegation, Egyptian Foreign Minister, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Minister Badr Abdellaty, Director of General Intelligence Major General Abbas Kamel, and U.S. Ambassador to Cairo Herro Mustafa Garg were also present. At the beginning of the meeting, Blinken conveyed the greetings of U.S. President Joe Biden and thanked Sisi for Egypt’s role in establishing regional stability.
Sisi and Blinken discussed Gaza
President el-Sisi emphasized the importance of the Egypt-U.S. strategic partnership in safeguarding the interests of both countries and enhancing regional security. During the discussion on the situation in the Palestinian territories, they exchanged views on increasing joint efforts between Egypt, the U.S., and Qatar regarding ceasefire negotiations and the release of detainees. Sisi reiterated the need for decisive intervention to remove obstacles to delivering necessary aid to the people of Gaza and to halt Israel’s violations in the West Bank. He also stressed the importance of abandoning the policy of escalating violence against the Palestinian people. Sisi and Blinken agreed that a two-state solution is the path to achieving lasting peace and security.
President Sisi also referred to the cyberattack that took place yesterday, stating that Egypt stands in solidarity with Lebanon and underscoring Egypt’s commitment to Lebanon’s security, stability, and territorial integrity. Sisi and Blinken agreed to enhance cooperation between the two countries to reduce tensions and ensure calm in the region.
