The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that 115 Russian soldiers who were captured in the Kursk region have been exchanged for 115 Ukrainian soldiers.

In a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, it was announced that, as a result of negotiations mediated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), 115 Russian soldiers captured in the Kursk region were returned from areas under Ukrainian control. In return, it was stated that 115 Ukrainian soldiers were released. The statement included, “Currently, the Russian soldiers are on Belarusian territory, and they are being provided with necessary psychological and medical assistance, as well as the opportunity to communicate with their families. All released soldiers will be brought back to Russia.”

Zelensky thanks UAE

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky shared on his social media regarding the prisoner exchange, stating, “Today, 115 of our soldiers, who are fighters of the National Guard, Armed Forces, Navy, and State Border Guard Service, have returned home. We are making every effort to bring them all back. I thank the UAE.”

Ukraine had captured 92 settlements in Kursk

Following a surprise attack initiated by the Ukrainian army across the border into Russia’s Kursk region on August 6, intense clashes erupted. In a recent statement, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces had seized more than 1,250 square kilometers in the Kursk region and established control over a total of 92 settlements.
